Rockstar’s highly anticipated open-world game, Grand Theft Auto VI, is still progressing toward its intended release next year, although conflicting reports regarding its launch schedule, including potential delays, have emerged.
Initially, Kotaku suggested that Rockstar was concerned about GTA VI missing its projected 2025 release window, prompting consideration of a delay until 2026. However, an update to the Kotaku report indicated that an early 2025 launch was no longer feasible.
Recently, Bloomberg noted a 5.2% decline in Take-Two’s stocks due to reports indicating that GTA VI might be delayed to 2026. Despite the setback, Bloomberg rationalized that such delays are common for ambitious projects like GTA VI, stating that video game development often faces scheduling challenges.
Contrary to these reports, Insider Gaming has cited sources close to the project asserting that GTA VI remains “on schedule,” dismissing suggestions of potential delays as speculative.
Given Rockstar’s history of delaying releases, such as with GTA V and Red Dead Redemption II, where initial launch dates were postponed, it wouldn’t be surprising if GTA VI encountered similar setbacks. For instance, GTA V was initially slated for a Spring 2013 release but was delayed until September of that year. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption II was initially set for 2017 but saw delays until Spring 2018 and finally launched in Fall 2018.
As conflicting information swirls around one of the most anticipated video game releases, the possibility of a delay remains uncertain. Stay tuned for further updates on GTA VI, touted as one of the most significant game launches in industry history.
